15 useful tips
for your OLA freezer

People who love ice cream naturally want to buy the very best OLA ice cream from you. OLA works with manufacturers to create freezers that use less energy. We have a few clever tricks to help nature and save money. It is also important that your freezer looks neat (clean, without ice cubes and with enough ice cream in it), so that people are more likely to want to buy something. To ensure that the ice cream always remains tasty, it is important that your freezer works properly. Here are our 15 helpful tips on how to best approach it!

Location of the freezer

Do not place the freezer outside in the sun, near a heat source or in a warm room. Do not place the freezer under an air conditioner or near a door.

Distance around the freezer and safe power supply

Always keep 15 cm free around the freezer, especially the ventilation grille and lids. Do not use an extension cord and use a grounded socket.

Temperature of the ice upon receipt

Check the temperature of the ice at the time of receipt. Preferably the temperature of the ice is -18 degrees or colder.

Use baskets

Use of baskets ensures optimum distribution of cold air. Place the ice cream according to First-In-First-Out principle (shortest shelf life at the top).

Temperature of the bottom and loading line

The temperature at the bottom of the freezer is much lower than at the loading line. Always make sure that no ice is above the loading line.

Fill the freezer

Stack the ice cream up to the height of the basket or loading line. Carefully open the outer cartons and carefully place the ice cream in the baskets (do not empty the cartons).

Keep the freezer closed as much as possible

Check regularly that the freezer is closed properly and ensure that the lids are not opened unnecessarily. This prevents ice formation.

Temperature in the freezer

Check the temperature between the ice in the middle of the freezer daily if it is colder than -18 degrees. See the HACCP guidelines for the legal obligations.

When products are removed

Remove damaged, thawed or expired products. Never refreeze thawed products!

Keep the freezer clean

Make sure that the ventilation grilles are always dust-free and clean. Use a vacuum cleaner or a brush for regular cleaning.

Cleaning condensers

Dirty condensers use more energy. The condenser is located behind the grille. Clean it regularly with a soft brush.

Frozen ice

Regularly remove frozen ice with a plastic scraper. If this does not work, defrost the freezer and remove the melt water.

When the freezer is defrosting

Quickly place the products in another freezer if you have one available.

When the freezer is defrosted and products cannot be moved

If that doesn’t work, leave the ice in the freezer and keep the freezer closed. Cover the freezer with insulating material.

In case of a malfunction

Report the freezer malfunction to the Internal Sales Department on +32 2333 62 06. (Only applies to freezers owned by Unilever/OLA)
